Situated in the southern foothills of the Montagne Noire, 'Les Houstalous' is a traditional Occitanie farmhouse offering stylish accommodation and home cooked food crafted from ingredients grown on the 18 acre estate.
Located only 25 minutes drive from Carcassonne airport and offering unlimited access to nature, 'Les Houstalous' is the ideal base from which to discover Haut-Languedoc, a region perfect for cycling, motorcycling, walking, fishing, horse riding and of course famous for its Cathar history.
Fill your days trekking across the densely forested slopes of the Montagne Noire and discover the best that nature has to offer, then return to the tranquility and comfort of a traditional farmhouse where you'll be catered for perfectly by your hosts Nicky and Miles.

Your host Miles is a superb cook and food is his passion primaire! Continental style breakfasts are included in your room rate and those requiring an evening meal won't be disappointed. Dishes all feature fresh seasonal ingredients, many of which are grown on site, nurtured by the green-fingered Nicky.
Join us at our table and enjoy exciting food and sample wine from local appellations including Cabardès, Corbières and Minervois. Eat pizza straight from the traditional wood-fired oven on our outdoor terrace or cosy up around the dining table and be catered for in style.

"Notre séjour était formidable. Miles et Nicky sont très accueillants et bienveillants. Encore merci a eux. Nous recommandons leur table d'hôte digne d'un restaurant étoile avec les légumes du jardin et les vins de la Montagne Noire. Leur propriété est un havre de paix, un cocon de douceur et de charme. Le silence, la vue sur les collines et les chevaux, les Pyrénées à l'horizon...idéal pour se promener dans les environs. L'endroit est parfait pour faire de longues baignades dans le lac d'eau potable digne d'un lac du Canada à 5 minutes à pied! Seuls au monde avec quelques rares baigneurs du coin. À proximité, nous avons visite la somptueuse abbaye de Papoul et le château de Saissac. Concernant la table d'hôte: le lieu noir a la crème de courgettes du potager est exquis, et leur pavlova aux fruits rouges de la Montagne Noire: tout simplement exceptionnel. Nous espérons revenir un jour."

LAC DE LA GALAUBE
(The Lake of the Galaube)
A haven for fishermen, hikers, horse riders & cyclists.
Directly to the rear of the farm is the beautiful Lac de la Galaube and its surrounding Forêt de la Montagne Noire.
Situated in front of the farm is the UNESCO World Heritage Site 'Prise D'Alzeau', the water source for the famous Canal Du Midi.

MOTORCYCLING
Motorcyclists Welcome! Attracted by the twisty roads and expansive routes through the Montagne Noire, motorcyclists find this area makes for compelling adventure bike style touring. Here at 'Les Houstalous' we offer secure bike storage for our guests and even advice on where best to ride.
PAINTING
Les Houstalous provides some stunning elevated views of the forests, fields and hills that surround the property. On a clear day these are further accentuated by the majestic Pyrenees in the background. Bring your easel and get ready to create your next masterpiece.

La Forêt de La Montagne Noire is a haven for strollers, hikers and ramblers alike. Situated directly behind our property your adventure into unspoilt natural beauty is only a few steps away.
MOUNTAIN BIKING
A mecca for cyclists. Haut-Languedoc offers excellent terrain for both the casual cyclist and the dedicated enthusiast. We offer easy forest trails - literally from our doorstep - and for those braver souls there's the challenging peaks of the Montagne Noire.
FISHING
Five minutes walk behind the farm and you'll find yourself on the shores of Lac de la Galaube. It's the perfect place to fish for brown trout whilst also providing stunning views of the surrounding pine forests.
BIRD WATCHING
This particular area is renowned for its abundant birds of prey. Due to our position on top of the banks of the Montagne Noire, we have some fantastic vantage points. Bring your binoculars!
